Kieran McKenna wins Championship Manager Of The Month

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has been rewarded for his sides record breaking start to the Championship season, becoming the first winner since 2015 for the Suffolk club.

His side won four and drew one of their five games in the month of September giving them 13 points from a possible 15 keeping up their incredible start to the season.

The Northern Irishman, beat out Cardiff’s Erol Bulut, Sunderland’s Tony Mowbray and Hull City’s Liam Rosenior for the award.

Since the start of the season, McKenna has beaten all the managers he was nominated alongside defeating both Cardiff and Hull at Portman Road whilst triumphing at the Stadium of Light.

His side have won nine of their opening 11 games, scalping numerous prestigious championship clubs, including recently relegated Southampton who fell 1-0 to the Tractor Boys at St. Marys.

Ipswich, who are back in the Championship for the first time since 2018/19, have 28 points from a possible 33, beating Southampton’s previous record of 26 points after 11 games set back in 2011.

The 37 year old, has seen his side score the most goals in the championship this season with 25, 14 of which have come before the half time whistle (most in the league).

They have also scored three goals or more in every home game this season, setting a new club record.

McKenna’s side is back in action in a weeks time against 23rd placed Rotherham who have just six points from 11 games.
