FARNHAM Town Football Club were in Step five of the non-league system just two seasons ago, now should they win the Southern League Premier South play-offs, they will be playing in step two, the National League South.

The Town secured their place in the top five of the Southern League Premier South over the weekend, with a 2-1 win at Sholing, giving them the chance to complete a third straight promotion.

The story begins in the 2023/24 season when the club were playing their football in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South.

They blew the competition away that season, they finished as unbeaten league champions, scored 130 goals, causing their goal difference to be plus 111. Second place Jersey Bulls finished 29 points behind Farnham’s total of 108 points, who won 35 of their 38 league games.

The Isthmian League Premier South Central was no match for the club either, as they claimed the league title there as well, also managing to gain a 20+ point gap to their closest opposition with them on over 100 points, and over 100 goals scored in back-to-back seasons.

As a result, they entered the Southern League Premier South with a lot of optimism, but not even in their heart of hearts could have imagined they’d be fighting for promotion once more.

They went unbeaten in the league until the end of September, when they were defeated 3-2 by the visiting Weymouth, which was then followed by a second straight defeat at home, 2-1 by eventual run away champions Walton & Hersham.

Another unbeaten run ensued that didn’t end until the end of December, only ended by a 2-0 away loss at Bracknell Town.

It was at this point where the faithful at The Memorial Ground were starting to believe that their men in light blue and claret could maintain the challenge in this division.

The most recent set of results confirmed that, as the club will battle it out to become the other team to go up with Walton & Hersham.
