From a gentle Christmas jog to marathons and 24 hour walks- Cody Sloan’s incredible running journey

WHEN Cody Sloan completed an incredible 24 hour walk, it would’ve been easy to forget the family run that changed his life 2 Christmas’ ago.

Sloan had never even taken a jog before Boxing Day of 2024, when Sloan’s family decided to take a light run.

Incredibly, he managed to run 18k and obviously soon noticed that he had a talent for running.

Within a week he had completed a half marathon and his life has flipped since then.

“I’ve done a handful of half marathons now, my favourite was Antrim Coast, right up in the North of Northern Ireland.” said Sloan.

“I completed my first full marathon in May last year and I’ve booked my first ultra marathon for September in the New Forest, just round the corner from here.”

Recently, Sloan walked from Derry to Belfast, a 24 hour walk for Resolute Minds which is a startup charity in Belfast with his brother Rory, who founded the charity, Christopher Eats and his friend Ross.

The charity focuses on supporting young people who look to overcome issues with trauma, mental health and addiction

“Resolute Minds is so important to me, we had a goal of £10k at the start of the walk and at 12 hours we only had £2,000, amazingly in the last 12 hours we got up to £13k it was unbelievable.

“Around 18 hours it got really tough, luckily I was fairly prepared and I have quite a small build so I think I struggled a lot less than the other lads.

“Rory’s story is incredible, his life has completely transformed in the last 5 years, he realised how much people were willing to give to support him but all he wants to do is donate.”
