Rosenior future ‘touch and go’ as Chelsea crisis deepens

Liam Rosenior is facing an uncertain future at Chelsea FC after their poor run of form continued with a damaging defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea’s sporting leadership are now holding internal discussions over the head coach’s position, with his future described as “touch and go” following the latest setback.

The defeat at Brighton has intensified pressure on Rosenior, with performances and results both coming under scrutiny in recent weeks. Chelsea have struggled for consistency, winning just two league games in nearly three months, a run that has seen them slip towards the bottom half of the table.

Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol said: “It’s touch and go whether he remains as the Chelsea head coach.” He added that club executives are now deciding whether to continue backing Rosenior or make a change.

Concerns have also been raised about the players’ response to the manager. Solhekol claimed: “I just think the players are not playing for Liam Rosenior.”

The situation appears to have worsened after Rosenior publicly criticised his squad following the Brighton defeat, admitting he was “shocked” by the performance and labelling it “unacceptable”.

That reaction has led to further questions about whether there is a way back for the former Hull City boss.

Chelsea’s hierarchy, including co-owner Behdad Egbhali and directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart are now expected to make a key decision in the coming days.

Solhekol said: “They have a big decision to make… whether to stick with Liam Rosenior or whether to replace him.”

Despite previously backing the 40-year-old, Chelsea now face a growing risk of finishing outside the European places — a scenario that would fall well below expectations.

With an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United approaching, Rosenior remains in charge for now, but his position appears increasingly fragile.

Unless results improve quickly, Chelsea may be forced into a major decision at a crucial stage of the season.
