Boxing Weekly Roundup

Friday Night Up North-

Abass Barrou beat Sam Eggington by decision in a very competitive fight.

The two went back an forth for the whole 12.

The judges ended up scoring the fight in a majority decision favour of Barrou.

German based brawler will now look to push on toward world title pictures after capturing the European title.

Barrou was reduced to tears in a post fight interview with Boxing Social after hearing the support from the crowd.

Saying ” I can’t believe how much they mean to me and how much they help me you guys are unbelievable.”

Cuban Controversy-

Jake Paul won by technical knockout in the first.

He fought the ever mocked Ryan Bourland.

After landing a few decent shots Paul smelt blood and pounced cornering Bourland firing heavy shots before the referee got in between and stopped the fight.

Its the first time Jake has fought someone the same weight as a pro boxer.

But many people would now like to see Paul face a bugger challenge in the pro game.

Amanda Serrano vs Nina Mienke gets cancelled due to a exposed cornea.

This wasn’t announced until after the co main event of the evening.

MVP Promotions is seemingly keen on refunding all in attendance of the event.

They are also committed to paying Mienke who was fit and ready to fight.

Serrano came out explaining about her injury and expressing her frustration and disappointment about not fighting.

She also said “I have exams tomorrow then after that we will see when I can next fight”

According to Ariel Helwani via X “According to Nakisa Bidarian, Serrano had her hair done Thursday night. She went for a run on Friday, a chemical from the hair went into her eye. It starting bothering her Friday and that’s why she wore glasses at the ceremonials. Bothered her all day today and when they examined her tonight at the arena the commission doctor wouldn’t clear her. She tried to convince them otherwise but alas no luck.”

All EYES On Vegas-

Luis Alberto Lopez forces the referee to stop the fight and retains his IBF Featherweight title against Reiya Abe.

Abe suffers a bad eye injury in the 2nd round due to a potential accidental thumb in the eye.

Despite the seemingly lack of sight through the eye of Abe he carried on with the doctors keeping a keen, pardon the pun, eye on him.

Abe put in a strong performance with the injured eye but Lopez carried on an onslaught hurting Abe and his eye even more in the proceeding rounds.

Lopez ended the fight in round 8 after a flurry of shots landed and hurt Abe.

“My dream is to unify at featherweight but I’m willing to move up Oscar Valdez and  Liam Wilson fight and I wouldn’t mind taking on the winner”

Ray Ray Ford stops Otabek Kholmatov in the final championship round.

Ray Ford captured the WBA Featherweight title after stopping the then unbeaten Kholmatov.

Kholmatov rocked Ford half way through the second forcing Ford to fall a few steps back.

Ford kept getting caught by the right of Kholmatov but kept growing into the fight the longer it went on.

The end was a star making moment as Ray Ford had the heart and desire to give it all in the final round.

It started with a big right hand pushing back Kholmatov who on his step back buckled his knee and fell back on the ropes and eventually to the ground.

The referee called it a no knockdown and the Uzbekistan National rose once again.

But Ford knew he had him hurt continuously pressuring Kholmatov with big shots eventually leading to a cover up and referee stoppage.

Top Rank deliver another gigantic fight card with entertaining fights.

Something has to be said on the fight of Kholmatov and his passion because he had a suspected torn ACL in his left knee from early in the fight.

What a desire and heart to not only continue but also compete at the highest level for the remainder.

As for Ford he now has boxing at his feet and is a world champion at 24, in only 17 fights.

Despite the boxing world being at his feet I will leave you with a emotional video of Ford returning to all the people who he fights for.

In Other News-

Garcia Vs Haney press conference-

The major news that came out in the first press conference in New York was the seeming death of the beef between Garcia and two promoters Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins.

The bad blood between the two kicked off earlier last year after Garcia went off on then twitter about De La Hoya after some legal battles took place over Ryans contract.

But after a dinner on Monday night it seems like the divide is no longer with Garcia saying ” shout out to Oscar and shout out to my team”

This is far from the most concerning part of Ryans “performances” this week.

Garcia has been seemingly on a X based rant and rave all week with some very cryptic tweets going out.

With the most concerning one coming out Sunday evening.

This and a whole host of worrying behaviour has led fans to speculate Garcias mindset going into the fight with some even encouraging to postpone.

Alongside some very scary substance abuse rumours is more than a few red flags for a man who shouldn’t be put in the public eye.

Haney spoke about these rumour even claiming Garcia was drunk at the press conference.

He explained to Fight Hub TV after the press conference: “Ryan was at the mother f***ing press conference drunk as a skunk.

Despite whether this is a promotion tactic or not Garcia and his team need to look into the behaviour and see if he can get the help needed because this is more than concerning for a young personality.
