WITH the World’s Darts Championship 10 days away, fans are gearing up for a festive period filled with iconic walkout music and 180s.
The best 96 players compete for the Sid Waddell trophy, named after the famous commentator, with the winner receiving £500,000 of the £2.5m prize pot on January 3rd 2024.
The current title holder is Micheal Smith, with the Englishman beating Michael van Gerwan in the final 7-4.
This time out, ‘Cool Hand’ Luke Humphries is favourite for the trophy, with the 28-year-old looking to make it three titles in as many months.
Alexandra Palace, more commonly referred to as Ally Pally, is where this competition will take place, a venue that holds 10,250 people, while another 7.3 million are expected to tune in on their televisions.
Despite these impressive figures, many still do not class it as a sport, something that Jason from the DartCounter Youtube channel simply cannot agree with.
He said: “When we look at the big number of fans that visit the darts, the official world rankings that we keep track of and the huge amount of talent needed to be the best in the world I think we can put an end to this discussion.
“For now and for always, the darts is truly a sport!”
