MANCHESTER UNITED suffered a 2-0 defeat at The Riyadh Air Metropolitano last night, making it just two wins in their last nine matches.
Pablo Barrios opened the scoring for the Rojiblancos with just 53 seconds played, before Leny Yoro saw a red card for a last-man challenge on Ademola Lookman in the 74th minute.
Lookman then doubled the lead five minutes after, leaving the traveling United fans fuming.
Martinez was interviewed post-match and didn’t hold back on how he was feeling.
Martinez told Amazon Prime Video: “We had a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well.
“I expect more,100%. I expect more from our technical director.
“I have to be honest, as players we have to do more but it is also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for this kind of night.
“You can’t keep changing the manager, what about other areas?
“Tonight it is easy to blame the coach, easy to say the players, but also we have to see other areas.”
The Red Devils forked out £155m on three midfielders in the summer transfer window, but didn’t strengthen any other area on the pitch.
Fans have been crying out for a new left back, and a strike partner for Benjamin Sesko, however the board thought the funds were better used to bolster the midfield.
Michael Carrick will now feel under pressure having gone five games without a win, the last one coming against Champions League debutants Sabah FK on the 10th September.
The former United midfielder signed a two-year permanent contract earlier in the year, after securing a UCL place by finishing third in the Premier League last season.
