Promotion The Target For Next Season

BRISTOL ROVERS manager Steve Evans has the chance to become the manager with the highest amount of promotions in English football. He is currently tied with Neil Warnock on nine.

The 63-year-old signed a deal with the Gas until 2028 after steering them clear from any relegation threat.

“That objective set by the board and our chair is very clear, to produce a promotion campaign next season, a challenge,” Evans told BBC Radio Bristol.

“If we don’t win promotion will I leave the football club? In the words of our chairman, no, but if we’re not challenging that would be an issue for all of us because we have to somehow get this club into a position where it can’t be in League Two for much longer.”

Evans was brought in with Rovers on a 10-game losing run and in the relegation zone but they are up to 15th in the table and are the division’s in-form team.

As the season draws to a close, Rovers are now on a seven game winning run, having won 10 and only losing once in a narrow away defeat to league leaders Bromley.
