ON SUNDAY 23rd of October the first round of the Women’s FA Cup gets underway and for the smaller sides it means a whole lot more.

A win in the first round can be massive to a smaller backed team like Moneys whose seasonal budget relies on these Cup competitions.

Tier 4 sides like the two who play on Sunday have already earned £4500 for winning in the Third Round Qualifying. A win in Sunday’s first round is worth £7000 and a loss is worth £2500.

Previously Moneys have made the fourth round proper losing out to London City Lionesses when they were in WSL 2. City have one of the world’s richest women’s club owners and Ballon D’or winner Alexia Putellas.

Moneyfield’s manager Jack Randall had this to say on the FA Cup and it’s financial implications for him and his side.

“Something that goes massively unspoken about.

“Not pressure because of the money but the money is a massive massive thing for a club like us who don’t have backing of a big football league badge or random owners who are well of. We’ve got what we’ve got and everything here is honest and hard working.”

A few wins in the early rounds can give a club money that will last it years and progress in the local Women’s game.

This weekend at The John Jenkins Stadium, Moneys take on Saltdean United for a place in the second round.
