Alcaraz a doubt for upcoming Roland Garros

Reigning winner of the French Open, Carlos Alcaraz, has been dominating headlines in tennis as worry grows over the severity of his recent injury and whether it may stop the Spaniard from retaining the title.

Alcaraz retired from the Barcelona Open mid-way through, and subsequently withdrew from the Madrid and Italian Open.

The French Open itself starts May 18th. Alcaraz himself remains a long way from confirming whether he’ll take part after picking up a wrist injury.

Despite potentially missing one of the four major tennis tournaments and falling further behind rival Jannik Sinner in the race for the number one seed, Alcaraz has been open on not wanting to rush his return in fear of causing further long-term damage to his still young career.

“I’d rather come back a little later but in great shape than come back early, rushing around, and unwell,

“God willing, I have a very long career ahead of me, many years, pushing myself too hard at this Roland Garros could seriously harm me in future tournaments.

“Things happen in the professional world. You have to accept them. I need to recover really well if I don’t want it to affect me later on.”

The exact injury is an inflamed tendon sheath.
