RORY McIlroy has won his second green jacket in a row and is somehow being talked about negatively online!
When golfers win the Masters, they have the courtesy to play the course as much as they like as they become members at Augusta National.
The Northern Irishman took full advantage of this this year, as he pulled out of the three tournaments leading up to the Masters to play Augusta as many times as he could to prepare himself.
When questioned about whether it was unfair, he could play at Augusta National leading up to the Masters, McIlroy said this:
“I joked last week, and going into this week, this place feels like my home course. I haven’t played anywhere else in the last two or three weeks, really.
“I felt prepared in that way. I felt prepared that wherever I hit it on the golf course, I sort of knew what to do. I know where to miss.
McIlroy also said it was for his daughter as to why he pulled out of the last few competitions.
“I honestly just don’t like the three tournaments leading up to this event. I did a couple of days where I dropped Poppy off at school, flew up here, played, landed back home and had dinner with her. The more time I could spend up here, the better.”
Golf fans are divided online as to whether this is completely fair, as he deserved the right to play at that course whenever he wanted, or whether it was unfair due to him pulling out of other tournaments to gain the green jacket advantage.
Nevertheless, McIlroy is the real winner here, as he walks home with £3.3 million and another Masters title under his belt!
