Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes his side can do ‘special things’ in the second leg of their Champions League quarter final fixture against Paris Saint Germain.
The reds go into the second leg trailing by two goals following their 2-0 loss to the French side, with goals coming from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at the Parc Des Princes.
However, manager Slot is still optimistic about his sides chances of progressing through to the Semi Finals of the competition.
“We’ve shown so many times in big games this season that we are able to get a great performance. We’ve also shown a different face; I’m completely aware of that, but many of our games were very good, especially in big games.”
Liverpool haven’t had the season they would’ve hoped for this year, as they currently sit 5th in the Premier League table, whilst recently exiting the FA Cup after a disappointing 4-0 loss to Manchester City.
Slot understands the task ahead, and admits that his side will have to take risks if they want to progress.
“Again, the approach will be to take the risk, because that’s first of all what we need, but to get the ball off them, you need to press them, and we saw how difficult it is to press these players. The last time we faced each other, they had the ball for 76 per cent of the time.
“That’s the first thing we have to change, to have the ball more, and if we have it more, then it’s nice to have an attacking threat on the pitch and that’s what we’ll have.”
“There is a belief we can do special things, but we also need to be very, very, very, very, very special to achieve that because we are playing against the champions of Europe, so that makes the task more complicated, but not impossible.”
Liverpool will host PSG tonight at Anfield, with kickoff set for 8PM GMT.
