Ninja Warrior UK: First a TV show, then an attraction, now an Olympic Event

The classic hit TV show, Ninja Warrior, took the UK by storm when it first aired back in 2015.

Constestants took part in an obstacle course consisting of activities like monkey bars, wall climbs and and cargo nets to test whether they can be a Ninja Warrior.

Since the frenzy of the TV show, 17 Ninja Warrior courses have been opened across England, Scotland and Wales with more locations in talks to be opened soon, for the general public to try and test their skills at the course.

Due to the successes brought by the show and the courses, the Olympic Committee have decided to add the sport into the Modern Pentathlon, ultimately replacing Horse riding.

This change will be brought in for the Los Angleles Olympics in 2028.

It was added to the Pentathlon due to the physical test it would put athletes through but also to make it more accessible and easier to spectate with test periods previously being held in 2022 and 2025.

The course may include events like, the infamous Wall Climb, Parallel Pipes, Wind Chimes and even the Tyre Swing.

The Modern Pentathlon from 2028 will be: Fencing, Swimming (200m freestyle), Ninja Warrior style obstacle course, and a combined laser run (laser pistol shooting and cross country running)

Some of our Journalists took a trip down to Ninja Warrior Southampton to test their skills at the course, in case any of them have a hidden talent they didn’t know about!
