ITALIAN Serie A side Lazio say goodbye to Greek goalkeeper Christos Mandas with a completed loan deal to AFC Bournemouth for £1.3M.
The 24-year-old joins the squad until the end of the Premier League season with the further option to buy.
AFC Bournemouth’s Head of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, said: “Christos is a goalkeeper who will add real strength and quality to our squad, and we’re delighted to welcome him on board.”
Prior to joining Lazio in 2023, Mandas went through the Atromitos academy before making a senior debut in 2017.
He later joined a fellow greek side OFI in 2022 before joining Lazio a season and a half later.
Mandas has made 33 appearances for the Italian side, with 18 in Serie A and nine in the Europa League, conceding 102 goals in his career across the three clubs and keeping 31 clean sheets in 95 games.
The keeper has had the opportunity to represent his nation at every age group from the U16 level and has two caps with the Greece national team, once starting in friendlies against Malta and Slovakia.
After already signing another goalkeeper, Fraser Forster, and midfielder Alex Toth, Mandas becomes the third signing for the club this month.
“From the start, when I knew Bournemouth were interested, I knew that I wanted to come here,” says Mandas on AFCBTV. “It feels like a magical atmosphere between the players and the fans, and I like the way the team plays, so it is the right move for me to come here.”
Mandas will be the first Greek player to be on Bournemouth’s squad, wearing the number 29 at the back of his shirt.
