LIVERPOOL VS PSG: UEFA Champions League R16 Preview

Paris Saint German storm Merseyside tonight looking to overturn Liverpool’s 1-0 lead and progress to the UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals.

The first leg was a Parisian barrage on the Reds’ goal, but Alisson was imperious. He made nine saves – no goalkeeper has made more in a Champions League knockout game since records began  (2003).

From all angles and all positions the Liverpool goalkeeper kept a clean sheet and prevented a whopping 2.26 goals in the process.

It was the season’s forgotten man who had the most notable intervention as Harvey Elliott scored with his first touch, just 47 seconds after coming on for a rarely disappointing Mohammed Salah.

A long ball from Alisson – always involved – was held up by Darwin Nunez, who showed once in a blue moon composure to slide in Elliott, who finished with vigour.

That gave the Reds the advantage heading into the return second leg; a position they haven’t lost from in their last 14 European knockout ties.

Cody Gakpo trained yesterday and will be in the squad but unlikely to start, for PSG it’s set to be the same team as the first leg as they rested eight players in this weekend’s 4-1 win in Renne.

A potential quarter final suspension looms over five Liverpool players if Harvey Elliott, Ibrahima Konate, Alexis Mac Allister, Andy Robertson or Virgil Van Dijk get a yellow card.

The winner will likely play Aston Villa, who take a 3-1 lead into their second leg against Club Brugge.
