Chelsea returned to the top four in the Premier League after coming back from one goal down to beat former boss, Graham Potter’s West Ham 2-1.
With Manchester City, Bournemouth and Newcastle all losing at the weekend, Chelsea had the chance to leapfrog their fellow top four contenders in the Premier League.
However, they were challenged by a newly organised West Ham under Potter who took the lead through Jarrod Bowen, just before the break.
Super sub Pedro Neto was in the right place at the right time to give Chelsea an important equaliser after Enzo Fernandez’s shot was brilliantly blocked by West Ham’s right back, Vladimir Coufal.
Cole Palmer’s cross deflected off Aaron Wan Bissaka and looped over Areola to completely turn the game on its head and give Chelsea all three points.
This victory for Chelsea was only their second in eight matches in the Premier League.
Jarrod Bowen returned to the starting lineup after suffering a fractured foot against Liverpool on 29th December and it was the English International who capitalised on a Levi Colwill mistake to put the irons in front.
Enzo Maresca turned to the bench and brought on Pedro Neto and Marc Guiu in the 52nd minute to try and change the game.
Ultimately, bringing on Pedro Neto for Jadon Sancho made the difference as he scored 12 minutes later which gave Chelsea plenty of momentum to go and get a winner.
This moment for Chelsea was unfortunately awarded to Aaron Wan Bissaka after diverting a Cole Palmer’s cross into his own net leaving Chelsea fourth in the table with 43 points.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said “It was a good weekend for us in terms of other results and we knew today was even better.”
