The story of Man City’s season and the implications of their 115 charges

PEP Guardiola’s spell as manager of Manchester City is one of the greatest we have ever seen.

From a treble to the four-peat and the centurion season, their success is unprecedented and 12-months ago looked never ending.

Rival fans could only look in pain on as at the beginning of this season Guardiola extended his stay in Manchester for a further two years.

Yet here we are. At the beginning of 2025 City sit 5th. Having just been on their worst run since the takeover of 2008.

Pep looks lost. And in the absence of Rodri the team looks devoid of control, leadership and physicality.

The previous mercurial Ilkay Gundogan looks finished and injuries at the back have made them look a shadow of their former-self.

Glory days come to an end. But never in the Premier League era have we seen a drop off this startling.

Hear the views of fans and Sky Sports’ journalist Gary Taphouse as they give their take on City’s drop-off.

As well as a live interview with the Athletic’s Manchester correspondent Mark Critchley
