ROBERTO De Zerbi’s men saw themselves victorious at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night as they triumphed over Coventry City, winning 3-1.
Upon their first win of the season, Spurs fans were delighted to see midfielder James Maddison start his first game in over 18 months after recovery from an ACL injury and a number of other smaller injuries that kept the Englishman on the sidelines.
De Zerbi’s trust in Maddison was re-paid as he scored the opening goal of the match after just quarter of an hour on the clock, as the midfielder scored an elegant attempt from outside the box, in usual James Maddison style.
After the match Maddison spoke to Sky Sports and said: “I have so much more to give for this club.
“I’m 29 and I still have plenty of years left. I have self-belief and plenty of qualities that can help us in this league.
“I just wanted to play well and show my qualities and what the team has missed in the last 18 monthssince my start.
“The gaffer asked me to play and wanted to enjoy watching me from the side, so hopefully I did that.
“I did that. A goal like that is always nice.”
Coventry City went on to equalise just after the start of the second half through a Jack Rudoni strike but that didn’t last long as only ten minutes later, new summer signing Omar Marmoush tucked away his first goal for the Lilywhites.
Spurs’ hold on the game was strengthened as they later added a late third after veteran Ben Davies struck a sweet strike into the bottom corner to sink Coventry and guarantee Spurs some much needed three points.
Tottenham fans also got to welcome Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski back to the pitch after 526 days since his last appearance in professional football after picking up a serious knee injury, back on the final day of the 2024-25 season.
