IT’S been a tough year for the Solent Redhawks, who finished rock bottom of the league with a winless record, marking one of the most challenging seasons in the team’s history.
The American football side, failed to win a single game leading to one of the worst seasons in the teams history.
To make matters worse, this year also saw the cancellation of the highly anticipated varsity match between Solent University and Bournemouth University, a rivalry that has always sparked excitement.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Redhawks. In a surprising turn of events, the team may have just found a new rival to reignite their competitive spirit.
The Winchester Silverbacks, who were forced to drop out of the league due to a lack of players, are making a comeback and have accepted the Redhawks’ challenge for a new varsity showdown.
We spoke with Redhawks running back Jordan Bissessar, who shared his thoughts on the team’s current situation and their chances of overcoming the Silverbacks in what promises to be an exciting clash.
Q: If the university continues with the annual varsity next year who would your ideal opponent be?
A: “With all due respect to Winchester, I would want to face Bournemouth Bobcats as they are a very high level within the country therefore would like to see how I would compete against a Premier team such as BU.”
Q: Will you continue to play outside of University?
“Yes I will, I am trying to play for Solent Thrashers who are the adult team of the Redhawks as I want to improve my game for next uniball season as they have good coaching.”
Q: How do you think you and your team will perform against Winchester?
“I do believe it will be a good game, unfortunately we did finish 0-6 throughout the regular season but I do believe we will come out with a win to boost all of our morale and then have a momentum shift for next year especially for the players who are graduating this year, it will be a good send off.”
