Saints and Cherries agree Brooks loan

David Brooks in Bournemouth colours, playing against Watford

DAVID Brooks has had a deal confirmed to join Southampton until the end of the season, according to the X account of journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Although yet to be officially confirmed by both parties, it is believed that Brooks will conduct his medical on Tuesday afternoon at Saints’ training ground Staplewood.

The Welshman becomes Saints’ second winter window addition, alongside fellow Bournemouth loanee Joe Rothwell who was confirmed on January 15th.

As reported in the Daily Echo, Brooks told BBC Radio Solent : “I’ve not had loads of minutes and sometimes it is difficult to go from minute one.

“I’m trying to show the gaffer why I should be playing. I want first-team football.

“I’m looking to do that. I want first-team football, especially for my own career. Wales have some big qualifiers coming up so I am looking to play as many minutes as possible.”

Brooks has played 18 matches for the Cherries across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

The 26-year-old’s last stint in the Championship was in 2021, scoring once in seven appearances, but his season was cut short after being diagnosed with Stage Two Hodgkin lymphoma.

Since returning to full time football following his recovery in 2023, Brooks has appeared in the Premier League for just 344 minutes, and will likely be granted more playing time in this move across the South Coast.

His arrival marks a sixth first team loan that Southampton currently have, registered joining Rothwell, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Mason Holgate, Flynn Downes and Ryan Fraser.

Championship rules state that only five loaned in player can feature in the match day squad meaning that Russel Martin will have to rotate his sqaud.
