Reece James scores for England after over two years out of squad

REECE James put in a Man of the Match performance for England at Wembley on Monday night, as the Three Lions saw off Latvia with a convincing 3-0 win.

Chelsea captain Reece James was the star of the show as he scored an incredible free-kick from far out to open the scoring, he then went onto perform excellently, picking up the player of the Match.

James spoke on his delight to be back fit and playing for his country.

“It’s the best I’ve felt in a long time.”

The right back stole the headlines with a brilliant free-kick, and expressed how good it felt to score his first goal for his country in that fashion, especially after being out of action for so long.

“It means a lot more to me, the last two and a half, three years have been a struggle, I had lots of injuries and it’s been tough, but towards the back end of this season I’ve been playing consecutively and I’m happy to be playing for my club and my country again.”

Speaking on the free-kick, James said he had to “Fight for the free-kick” as many players are known for their set piece specialities, but with Trent Alexander – Arnold out with an injury, James seemed the best pick.

England fans will be hoping he can stay fit and help England in their bid to win the World Cup in 2026.
