SAINTS striker Paul Onuachu has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 FIFA Puskas award for his stunning strike for Trabzonspor
Onuachu’s spectacular backheeled, scorpion kick goal for Turkish side Trabzonspor against Konyaspor in November 2023 is one of 11 goals nominated.
Three other English based players, Alejandro Garnacho, Jaden Philogene and West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus are all also in contention to win the award.
The Nigerian international is yet to score for Saints having joined the club in the 2023 January transfer window.
Since joining, Onuachu has found it hard to get regular first team minutes in the side which led to him being loaned out in summer 2023.
With the club failing to secure a move away for him in the summer, the six foot seven inch striker has worked his way back into Russell Martin’s plans.
‘Tall Paul’ the nickname Saints fans have given him earned his first start of the season in the 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.
Saints fans will be hoping the striker is fit to face Brighton and Hove Albion at The Amex tonight after his match against Liverpool was cut short due to fatigue.
