Alex Dunne says, “It would be pretty special to win two championships back to back, F4 and then GB3”, ahead of the final round of the GB3 championship at Donington Park.
The Irish driver sits third in the championship after taking a double victory last time out at Zandvoort, catapulting the Hitech driver into the title fight.
Dunne said: “Obviously, moving forward winning as many championships as you can is the best possible way to make the next steps, so hopefully I can do it.”
The Hitech driver remains 17 points behind championship leader Callum Voisin with JHR Developments’ Joseph Loake in second place.
Dunne dominated at Donington Park in British F4, taking two wins in the season opener last year.
The 17-year-old is looking to repeat that success on a weekend where he could win his second consecutive title.
“When I raced here in F4 I got two wins and a second in the reverse grid race, so I’ve gone well here before, and so far in testing the pace has been pretty strong. Hopefully we can go well.”
The 2022 British F4 champion stuttered in the opening two GB3 rounds, suffering from a poor qualifying at Oulton Park and a collision with John Bennett at Silverstone.
Despite taking four wins this year, Dunne isn’t fully satisfied with his campaign so far: “I think definitely to date it probably could have gone a little bit better.
“I think we had a bit of a rocky start but throughout the middle of the season with the exception of Spa I would say, it wasn’t really up to my standard.
“I’ve had a little bit of bad luck here and there, and a few things didn’t really go our way, so to be honest, to still be in with a shout of winning the championship, considering how I would have liked the season to have gone, I think it’s not been too bad.”
