Daniel Ricciardo “not as tough as he thought”

The Australian is hopeful of making his F1 return this weekend at the United States Grand Prix after missing the last five race weeks.

the ‘Honey Badger’ was brought in replacing Nyck De Vries for AlphaTauri and only raced a handful of occasions before breaking his left hand.

Ricciardo said ‘I think it was just really when the accident happened, and we were aware what bone broke, they seemed fairly okay with that bone in terms of its relatively easy one to fix’

Albeit, a bone break is never a comfortable ordeal but this seemed to challenge Ricciardo more than ever before.

This is the first serious injury of his career and although he has a tough exterior, he explained “I’m a bit of a wuss as well, so maybe not as tough as i thought”.

The timing couldn’t be better for the 34 year-old driver as he returns to a mixed-emotions track of his in his illustrious career.

The United States Grand Prix has seen the Aussie finish on a podium twice in 2014(3rd place) & 16′(3rd place) and didn’t finish on another two occasions 2017 & 18′.

Even AlphaTauri have made ‘significant improvements’ to the car so maybe we could see the Daniel Ricciardo of the mid 2010’s rather than the Aussie of the late 2010’s.
