CHELSEA Football Club have made initial contact with Ruben Amorim in efforts to bring the Sporting Lisbon manager to the club.
Amorim is on a four man shortlist of manager’s who are being considered to become the new head coach at the South West London club.
Several other names on the shortlist such as Kieran McKenna, Enzo Maresca, and Thomas Frank are being considered.
However, it is understood that the Sporting Lisbon boss is Chelsea’s number one target to replace Mauricio Pochettino.
The Portuguese manager would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge and is excited at the possibility of coaching in the Premier League.
Amorim is currently focused on Sporting Lisbon’s Portuguese Cup final against Porto on Sunday.
This means any deal for the 39 year old would have to be completed after the final at the conclusion of Sporting Lisbon’s season.
Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Amorim for quite some time and those in control believe he is a perfect fit for the club and Clearlake’s future ambitions.
Sporting Lisbon have no intention of letting Amorim leave this summer but due to a £12.8 million release clause inserted in his contract, it may be out of the Portuguese champions control.
Amorim was among the favourites to join Liverpool before the announcement came that Arne Slot would be the one to try and ‘fill the massive shoes of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
