Formula 1 Sprint Qualifying- Singapore

Max Verstappen took pole for the Sprint Race in Singapore, but the Dutchman is under investigation for an overtake under yellow flag conditions.

Sprint Qualifying One

Cadillac driver Sergio Perez is the first to find the wall during Sprint Qualifying One leaving debris across the circuit, bringing out the red flag.

Max Verstappen came under investigation by the FIA after overtaking former title rival Lewis Hamilton during yellow flag conditions before the red was brought out for Perez’s incident.

Red Bull chose to leave it late only getting one chance at setting a time to get themselves through to the second part of qualifying. Despite this both drivers were successful and avoided elimination.

Max Verstappen was quickest followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Championship contender George Russell for Mercedes.

Both of the Williams of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, were unable to produce a fast enough lap, along with the Cadillac pair Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, Lance Stroll and this years only Rookie Arvid Lindblad.

Sprint Qualifying Two

The second session for sprint qualifying in Singapore was delayed due to issues with the timing systems, with the FIA releasing a statement to say that the rest of this sprint qualifying might be doubt.

Here’s what the FIA has said: “Start of SQ2 will be delayed due to an issue with timing systems, some lap times had not been registered. That is now resolved and the current timings are considered correct.

Max Verstappen was the first driver to set a competitive time shortly followed by the Mercedes pair and being out paced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

After the drivers first runs in Sprint Qualifying 2 the biggest suprise was Isack Hadjar’s lap only quick enough for 11th, with Nico Hulkenberg with the time for the Frenchman to beat.

George Russell had to duck out of a flying lap after a lock-up in his Mercedes. Leaving him with no choice but to go again to set a faster lap. Massive Scare for the Briton as he had to set a quick lap as Alpines Franco Colapinto set a lap that pushed Russell out of the top ten.

Sprint Qualifying Two ended with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc quickest followed by his team-mate Lewis Hamilton and current world champion Lando Norris for McLaren.

The drivers who failed to secure a place in the top ten shoot-out are the two Audi’s of Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Borteleto, the HAAS pair of Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso and the Argentine Franco Colapinto.

Sprint Qualifying three

Lando Norris was the first driver to cross the beam to set a flying lap for the final session of Sprint Qualifying.

Run number one had Charles Lecerc fastest with Norris in second and Hamilton third.

Red Bull mechanics gathered around four-time world-champion Max Verstappen’s car suggesting that there might have been an issue before he headed out and went quickest.

The top ten shoot-out finished with Max Verstappen on pole, followed by George Russell and Charles Leclerc.

With the surprises of the session coming from world-championship leader Kimi Antonelli only fast enough for seventh and Isack Hadjar in ninth below a junior team driver in Liam Lawson.
