LEYTON Orient manager, Richie Wellens, was left enraged following his side’s woeful performance in their 0-0 draw at home to Port Vale on Tuesday night.
Both teams were unable to find the back of the net, despite being presented with golden opportunities throughout a very end-to-end game.
Leyton Orient striker, Ruel Sotiriou, was played in behind the Vale defence before he thumped his effort against the crossbar.
On the other hand, Port Vale forward, James Wilson, who is also a former Manchester United player, had a huge chance to break the deadlock when he connected with Gavin Massey’s excellent cross; but he fired his shot high over the bar from very close range.
Orient’s woes in the forward areas of the pitch continue to haunt them.
Prior to the fixture on Tuesday evening, the O’s had only scored four goals in their last five games, highlighting a key issue within their side.
Before they visited the Gaughan Group Stadium, East London, the Valiants had conceded two or more goals in each of their previous five matches, providing the Reds with the perfect chance to break their duck.
However, the East London side were unable to capitalise and consequently handed Port Vale their first clean sheet in 12 games and their first under manager Darren Moore.
The goalless draw saw the Valiants head back to Stoke-on-Trent with a crucial point that will bolster their push to try and claw their way out of the relegation zone before the final gameweek.
However, Orient look destined to finish their first campaign back in League One in mid-table under Wellens, after a torrid period that nearly saw them be liquidated as a club.
However, despite their relatively successful term in the third tier of the English football pyramid, the O’s’ boss was eager to highlight his fury towards his team’s performance against the Valiants.
He commented: “It wasn’t a great game overall.
“We should’ve won the game in the second half, but that was the poorest we’ve played for a long time.
“As the home team, the onus is on us to play well and to move the ball quickly, but we were never at the races today.”
Despite criticising his own team’s performances, Wellens ensured that he gave the visitors the credit they deserved.
“I have got to give credit to Port Vale, they came here fighting for their lives and they probably could have been a couple of goals up at halftime,” he claimed.
His side will have the chance to earn their first victory in four games when they travel to Hertfordshire to face high-flying Stevenage FC.
