HARRY Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or to become England’s first winner since Michael Owen.
The 33-year-old saw off Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal in a star-studded ceremony at the London Palladium on Monday night.
The England captain received the trophy from Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario before paying tribute to his family and friends for all the support on his journey.
Kane scored 61 goals across all competitions for Bayern Munich last season, winning the domestic double in the process.
He also led England to third at the World Cup last summer, scoring six goals.
Kane becomes only the fifth Englishman to hold football’s most prestigious individual prize, joining Sir Stanley Matthews (1956), Sir Bobby Charlton (1966), Kevin Keegan (1978, 1979) and Owen (2001).
He is also the first player from a German club to claim the award since Matthias Sammer won it in 1996 after captaining Germany to Euros glory.
Mbappe and Yamal were both visibly disappointed to miss out on the award, but both will have more opportunities in the coming years to be crowned the world’s best player, especially Yamal, who only turned 19 in July.
