VICTOR Wembanyama showed promise in his first NBA start as the San Antonio Spurs lost to the Dallas Mavericks 126-119 in season opener.
Wembanyama who was the first pick in the NBA Draft and the most hyped prospect coming to the league since a young Lebron James, walked out into Front Bank Center Court as he took on a talented Dallas Mavericks in this Texas showdown last night.
At the start of the game, his energy stood out from the rest of the court, with him gaining a rebound and countering chances he was a handful for the Mavericks.
The sold out crowd was loving his blocks and shots, everytime the Frenchman got hold of the ball a roar would erupt around the arena.
However in the second half he was a bit quiter and you could tell the young star was getting frustrated by lack of time and control on the court which the experienced Mavericks controlled well.
Victor managed to put up 15 points, five rebounds and had a 67% field goal percentage against the Mavericks.
However the Dallas Mavericks came out on top in the end thanks to a dominant performance from fellow NBA European superstar Luka Doncic who put up 33 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
After the game in a interview Wembanyama said “lots of emotions for sure, but it would of been perfect with a win”.
With having trouble with fouls during the game Victor said ” it might be frustrating, but always keeping your heads up is good for my teammates, i cant show it on the court and we learn everyday”.
The San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama’s next game is against the Houston Rockets who also lost their first game tonight in Texas again.
