Arsenal v Newcastle Preview

ARSENAL resume their Premier League title bid in a Saturday afternoon clash against Newcastle with an outside chance of qualifying for Europe.

The Gunners go into the game in an uncomfortably familiar position in the table, after Manchester City’s win over Burnley knocked Mikel Arteta’s side to second by virtue of scoring fewer goals.

A draw will be enough for the North London side to regain their position at the head of the table, where they have spent every day until Thursday night since early October.

Newcastle, meanwhile, arrive at the Emirates in free-fall, losing their last four games in all competitions but remain in the hunt for European qualification and know a win would go a long way to salvaging a disappointing campaign.

Team News

Arsenal are set to welcome Bukayo Saka back from injury, in what is massive boost heading into the final month of the season.

Saka’s last appearance was the Carabao Cup final defeat to Man City and Arteta has revealed the winger is on course to be named in the matchday squad, along with Riccardo Calafiori.

Jurrien Timber, however, is not yet ready to make his return to action. Neither is Mikel Merino, despite making good progress in his recovery from surgery.

For Newcastle, Anthony Gordon has been ruled out with a hip issue that forced him to sit out last weekend’s home loss to Bournemouth.

Tino Livramento has been ruled out with a thigh complaint, but Lewis Hall should be fit to feature despite coming off at half-time against the Cherries.
