STAN Moody, aged 19, made his Snooker World Championship debut yesterday, as he became the 6th youngest person to cue at The Crucible.
Moody raced into a 7-3 lead, topping with a highest break of 110, but did not have enough to get over the line. At 7-3, The youngster missed a red to extend his lead to five, and what followed was three snookers by Kyren Wilson to win the 11th frame, which inspired his fightback.
The 2024 world champion was criticised on social media due to his celebration after getting the final frame over the line, due to his opponents age.
Moody described the feeling afterwards as “gutted” and followed it by saying he had “too many bad frames” during his collapse. He added to this by saying he felt “comfortable” and he thought he “had the match won” but claims he will “go back and practice and come back stronger.”
The 19-year-old had to win two qualifier games to get to the opener against Wilson, including a 10-9 win in a last frame decider, bagging a century break in the final frame. This all game in a week where Moody went against doctors advice and discharged himself from hospital as he was in with tonsillitis.
