Basingstoke defeat already relegated Tiverton 3-1 to ensure step 3 football for a third successive season.

Tiverton had the first chance of the game in the second minute but George Collins saw his effort drift agonisingly wide.

It took until the 10th minute for Basingstoke to fashion out their first meaningful opportunity. Robbie Gallagher played Joe Grant in behind but his venomous half volley smashed the Tiverton bar.

Just two minutes later, Basingstoke would have a glorious opportunity to take the lead. George Reid was wiped out by Tiverton keeper Radovanovic in the penalty area and Ore Bello converted from 12 yards for his third penalty and goal in as many games.

The visitors levelled 17 minutes later through George Collins. The youngster reacted first to Simon Grant’s parry to tap into an empty net and register his first Tiverton goal.

Joe Grant would have the final opportunity of the first half, gliding through the Tiverton backline but he saw his one on one effort repelled by Radovanovic.

Basingstoke would regain their lead just seven minutes into the second half when Joe O’Loughlin found himself with the freedom of the Winklebury Football Complex to head home.

The victory would be sealed by half-time substitute Ben Cook. The midfielder arrived late into the box and stylishly slotted past a helpless Radovanovic.

Cook almost doubled his tally in spectacular fashion with just one minute remaining but his 25 yard curling effort smashed against the bar.

The win is a third successive one for Dan Brownlie’s side as they climb to 13th. All eyes turn to Tuesday when they take on Sholing in the Hampshire Senior Cup Final.
