FORMER Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz will lead Ghana into the 2026 World Cup.
The 73-year-old takes over after Otto Addo was sacked following friendly defeats to Germany and Austria.
The Black Stars, who are in Group L, take on Panama, England and Croatia in June.
Queiroz most recently was in charge of Oman before standing down when they failed to make the World Cup.
The Portuguese had two spells as assistant manager under Alex Ferguson and also had a spell as head coach with Real Madrid.
He will look to negotiate a difficult group but in a tournament in which the eight best third-placed teams will qualify for the Round of 32, Ghana do have an easier route to the knockout stages than in previous years.
Queiroz said, “Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul. I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future.”
Ghana last made the knockout stages of the in 2010 where they were agonisingly close to becoming the first ever African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup but were knocked out on penalties by Uruguay.
