Monaco is considering keeping Ansu Fati, but his salary is the main stumbling block.

AS Monaco is preparing for next season, and one big question is whether Ansu Fati will remain with the club. The Spanish forward, on loan from Barcelona until June, has an €11 million buyout clause, which Monaco can afford and is considering given his performances.

Ansu has regained prominence this season after overcoming his injury problems. In 25 matches, he has scored 9 goals and delivered strong performances that have won over the coaching staff. Although he is not a regular starter, his commitment and his ability to move across the entire attacking line have made him a useful asset for Adi Hütter.

Despite the interest, the deal is not yet done. The main stumbling block is the player’s salary: according to L’Équipe, he earns around €250,000 net per month. This salary is significantly higher than what most players at Monaco receive, and accommodating it would disrupt the club’s existing wage structure. Monaco has long maintained a policy of financial control and is unwilling to take on such high figures unless conditions change.

Financial uncertainty in Ligue 1 and lower TV revenue force the club to be cautious. Champions League qualification may help, but the goal is to keep a strict wage balance.

The decision hinges on Ansu Fati. If he accepts a pay cut, Monaco will activate the buy-out clause. Otherwise, he will return to Barcelona, where his future remains unresolved.
