Gallagher PREM preview: Saracens vs Leicester Tigers

Tigers travel down to North London and the StoneX Stadium in search of a win that will keep them on target for a Semi-Final place in this years Premiership

After a recording breaking 85 to 19 victory up north against Sale last time out, Saracens will be full of confidence when they host Leicester this Saturday.

19-year-old phenom Noah Caluori scored five tries in the victory at the CorpAcq Stadium, making it 10 against the Sharks on the season. The result has put large amounts of pressure on Sale Director of Rugby and former Saracens Coach Alex Sanderson regarding his future at the north-west club.

Speaking to RugbyPass, Saracens boss Mark McCall said the most impressive part of Caluori’s performance was “his all-round game” and “wants to improve those aspects of his game that are going to make a difference for him.”

It’s not only the Saracens winger thats been in form as of late. Fly-Half Fergus Burke seems to be having a breakout season in the 10 jersey, scoring five tries this season and averaging 51 minutes a game this season. Considering his competition is club legend Owen Farrell, Burke has done well to secure his spot.

However, the North London club have faced patches of good form and patches of bad form. This included two losses in the league against Bath and Northampton in the Showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the former also knocking them out of the Champions Cup Round of 16 stage.

This inconsistent form has kept Saracens in 6th, and currently nine points away from a Semi-Final spot with five games still to come, including this weekend’s matchup

Leicester Tigers had a battering of their own on Saturday, as they dispatched Newcastle Red Bulls 62 to 3 and extend their win streak in the Prem to five.

Speaking to Tigers media after the victory against Newcastle, Head Coach Geoff Parling said he was “really pleased” with the result, and said his team ‘did some good stuff up front, and really shifted the ball well’

Parling may have his side clicking at the right time in the second-half of the campaign in the league, with recruits such as Billy Searle at Fly-Half for Tigers a key output and source of talent in a star studded back line.

A back line with the likes of aerial threat Freddie Steward and speedsters Adam Radwan and Ollie Hassell-Collins pairs well with a strong forward pack led by captain and England regular Ollie Chessum, and the likes of Hanro Liebenberg, Joe Heyes and Hamish Watson.

Tigers had the better of Saracens earlier on this season, with Leicester taking down the Londoners 36 to 28 at Welford Road before the Six Nations break.

Fans on both sides will be expecting a tight affair, with both in form Fly-Halves trying to dictate play early on through fats hands and the kicking game to aerial threats Caluori and Steward. Also expect a physical game upfront with internationals on either side of the scrum.
