Bromley tightened their grip of first place in Sky Bet League Two with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Bristol Rovers at Hayes Lane.
The home side came out of the blocks quickly, nearly opening the scoring in the second minute through Ashley Charles but his deflected shot drifted agonisingly over Brad Young’s goal.
However the league leaders didn’t have to wait too long for their opener. Will Hondermarck latched onto Corey Whitely’s throughball to fire past a helpless Brad young in the 18th minute.
Bristol Rovers then responded with a chance of their own on the half hour mark but neither Fabrizio Cavegn or Mees Rijks could beat Grant Smith.
Just a minute later, Bromley had what would prove the last chance of the first half when Mitch Pinnock squared the ball for Corey Whitely but the winger fired wide from just 8 yards.
Steve Evans shuffled his pack at half-time, taking the entire forward line off. One of those players introduced was Tottenham Hotspur loanee Yusuf Akamrich, he went close in the 49th minute but Bromley captain Omar Sowumni headed his goalbound effort over his bar.
Whitely went close again on the hour mark but Brad Young’s outstretched foot denied him before Jesse Debrah’s follow up was cleared off the line by Clinton Mola.
Rovers substitue Joe Quigley had his sides best chance of the second half in the 78th minute but volleyed harmlessly over.
All hopes of getting something from the game vanished for the visitors with ten minutes to play when half-time substitue Shaq Forde saw red for a second yellow.
The win means Bromley extend their unbeaten league to 19 but more importantly means they go 9 points clear of fourth place Notts County. The Gas’s four game unbeaten streak comes to an end, remaining in 19th and 8 points ahead of 23rd placed Barrow.
