Everything you need to know about Audi

FORMULA ONE is a sport that has many different complexities to it. From different components that make up the cars, most with names and abbreviations, that let’s be honest, no one truly understands, to hundreds of regulations that teams and drivers need to adhere to.

But before we throw you in at the deep end, we are going to walk you through the different teams.

Previously, we talked about Alpine and Aston Martin, so next up is…

Audi

Audi Revolut F1 Team, based in Hinwil, Zurich, Switzerland, is entering their first season in Formula One after acquiring Sauber Motorsport.

The team last season was known as Stake or Kick Sauber F1 Team and has previously gone by many different names.

In 2022, Audi announced that they would enter F1 as a power unit manufacturer and would partner up with Sauber, but it has since bought them out completely.

Who makes up the Audi team?

The Team Principal is Jonathan Wheatley. Throughout his career at Benetton, Renault, Red Bull Racing and Sauber, he has contributed to eight constructor championship titles as mechanic, chief mechanic, and Sporting Director.

His job is to oversee all the technical, operational and personnel aspects to ensure the team is moving in the right direction.

Ultimately, he has final say over key strategic decisions and represents the team publicly in the media.

Like every F1 team, there are two drivers.

German Nico Hülkenberg is widely considered by the community as one of the best drivers who has never won a Formula One race, and before the 2025 British Grand Prix, he had never finished on the podium.

Hulkenberg started his F1 career in 2010, where he raced for Williams, before joining Force India for 2011-2012.

He spent one season at Sauber before returning to Force India for 2014-2016

It was announced that he would race for Renault from 2017 until his contract ran out at the end of 2019.

He got a couple of runouts in the Racing Point/Aston Martin as a reserve driver due to Covid, then got a contract at Haas for 2023-2024

In 2025, he moved to Kick Sauber.

Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto is the second driver, and like Hülkenberg, he has also made the move from Kick Sauber to Audi.

After winning the Formula 3 championship in 2023 and the Formula 2 championship in 2024, becoming the fourth driver to win F3 and F2 titles in successive years, he was signed by Sauber for the 2025 season.

The team is yet to reveal who their test/reserve drivers are.

As of the date of writing, ahead of the 2026 season opener, Audi has obviously not competed in any races, so have no statistics.

With the new regulations now at play, these first few races could determine what direction the teams go in for the rest of the season.

Next up is the other newcomer, Cadillac
