Growing up in the gym is becoming a recurring theme around England with many youngsters joining in with boxing.

Across the UK, more and more kids are starting to box, as it’s a good way to keep out of crime and start a new life for many young people.

Kids can start joining gyms at any age to start boxing and many youth pathways begin between the ages of 5-9 years old.

September 2024 saw a 42% increase in youths joining boxing compared to 2023, according to England Boxing.

Many parents send their kids to boxing so they can learn early combat skills and the main sets of self defence in the way that they will be able to use in life.

With this increase, more gyms are having to be built and some people have taken matters into their own hands, starting up in their own house with cheap boxing sets.

Boxing is becoming a top-10 sport for Gen Z, ranking fourth compared to 11th for Boomers.

Luke Upton spoke to Lewis Brindley upon his rise into boxing and what it would have done to his life.

“My life would have gone downhill pretty fast if I did not join boxing.”

From a young age, Lewis started boxing which has shaped his life in many ways and mostly for the better as a much fitter athlete.

Lewis has an upcoming fight on the 3rd April for SAS boxing fight night.
