How will Bournemouth’s new stadium affect local residents?

BPC Council have recently greenlit AFC Bournemouth’s £90m Vitality Stadium expansion which will see the capacity rise to nearly double their size at over 20k.

However, local residents have raised concerns about traffic around the stadium on a matchday.

AFC Bournemouth fan, Charlie Booth, explained:

“I think that the expansion might increase traffic which could make my travel to the stadium harder, especially finding parking as well.”

“My dad, I take him to the games, has a bit of a dodgy knee so I try and park as close as possible so he doesn’t have to walk so far.”

However, Boscombe retail manager Ben Clark believes that a new slipway could ease traffic in the area on a matchday.

“Hopefully with the extension they may do a slip road away from the stadium as well for the traffic to get out.”

“We definitely get quieter where I work when the Bournemouth games on but we get busier just beforehand. With the new expansion of the stadium that hopefully goes ahead, hopefully that draws more footfall into Boscombe because there’ll be more fans there which will make Boscombe a bit busier.”

The stadium expansion is set to be completely finished by August 2027 with the promise of amending vehicle circulation routes.
