The Philadelphia Eagles have a new wide receiver to help them make it back-to-back Super Bowl appearances.
Veteran Julio Jones has been signed on for the rest of the season as he rejoins former Tennessee Titans companion A.J Brown.
The 34 year old has 13629 receiving yards so far on his career and brings a wealth of experience to the side that lost in last year’s Super Bowl.
Averaging 87.9 receiving yards per game, Jones offer Jalen Hurts a new target to aim for. Despite flying so far in the league, the Eagles lost their unbeaten record in their last game, a tight 20-14 loss to the New York Jets.
Clearly wanting to make sure that they return to their imperious form, Head Coach Nick Sirianni has given Hurts all the tools he could need to ensure they can add to their sole Super Bowl title from 2018.
A.J Brown has little reason to worry about his starting spot after averaging 112 receiving yards in his six games so far but Devonta Smith, who has averaged just 55.6 yards per game, might be looking over his shoulder.
Smith is also nursing a hamstring injury which Jones can help offset but the question as to who becomes wide receiver two will be open to discussion.
On the face of it, Smith, whilst not tearing up the league, is still performing consistently enough to keep his spot and Sirianni is more likely to have brought Jones in as depth in case anything happens.
It appears more of a reinforcement to keep the current starters on their toes as opposed to a signing needed to help a struggling offense, especially as number three receiver Quez Watkins was just placed on the injury reserve list.
Hurts has the eighth most passing yards so far this season, with no real cry of desperation for help in his receivers.
The rest of the league will be cautious that Jones doesn’t add too much to the offence, as it is currently poised to only improve.
