Phil Foden And Jude Bellingham Recalled To England Squad

Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham have been recalled to the England squad for the last World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.

Nick Pope also comes in, alongside Nico O’Reilly, Alex Scott and Adam Wharton.

James Trafford, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Morgan Gibbs-White, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ollie Watkins have all been left out, having made the squad, last month.

Tuchel has said, however, “the door is always open”, for these players to return for the World Cup squad.

Thomas Tuchel left Jude Bellingham out of October’s squad after the Real Madrid star had returned from a shoulder operation, but has praised the 22-year-old, following his recent call up.

Tuchel said: “He is a special player, and for special players there can always be special rules, Jude always deserves to be here”.

Phil Foden makes his return following an impressive spell, opitimised by his performace and 2 goals on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Foden’s position within the England squad has often changed due to England’s talent within midfield but the 25-year-old has made more than a claim to be England’s starting No.10, following recent performances.

“Main thing about him is that he gets a role in the central part of the pitch. I don’t see him as a winger anymore. He should have a central role that will bring out his strengths most. We’ve talked about this already with him”, Tuchel said.

Alex Scott has got his first senior call-up after impressing with Bournemouth and being influential in England’s Under-21 Euro success last summer.

Tuchel said: “He deserves to be with us. I first saw him closely in the Euros with the under-21 where he was excellent with Elliot Anderson. He has come a long way and has performed his way into this nomination.”

Adam Wharton reclaimes his spot back in the squad after impressing for Crystal Palace during their first season with competetive European football.
