GRAHAM Potter has been sacked as Head Coach by West Ham Football Club according to a club statement which said that ‘a change was necessary’.
Potter’s West Ham have only won one of their five opening Premier League fixtures this season, with fans being left in a gloomy mood at the London Stadium.
The club’s official statement published on Saturday morning shared the board’s disappointment in Potter, saying he had ‘not matched expectations’ making his dismissal inevitable.
It continued to read “the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
“The Club can confirm that Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin have also left with immediate effect.”
The former Brighton and Chelsea boss took over at the club in January of this year, taking charge of just 25 games during his tenure.
With rumours swirling of who will take charge at West Ham names such as Nuno Espírito Santo, Michael Carrick and Gary O’Neil are all being linked with a move to East London.
However, one named also mentioned is former Hammers manager Slaven Bilić who was at the helm from 2015 until 2017, having also played for the club making 48 appearances in three years.
Bilić, who most recently managed Al Fateh in Saudi Arabia, is currently unemployed and could be set for a return as West Ham look to climb the table and avoid being stuck in a relegation battle.
West Ham face Everton on Monday night in the Premier League with the club currently sat 19th in the table with three points after five games.
