CRISTIAN Romero has opened the door to a potential exit from Tottenham Hotspur following their disappointing league campaign.
Argentine journalist Gastón Edul asked Spurs’ vice-captain about his future, where he said that: “It depends on a lot of things. We’ll see after the [English] championship is over. The truth is, I haven’t spoken to my agent yet, but I’m open to anything. My goal is always to grow and go to new places to continue developing.”
Romero has been a target of Spanish Giants Atletico Madrid, who could be inclined to make a move for the defender, especially after Romero has expressed he is open to a move away.
The World Cup winner assured Tottenham fans, however, that he is currently focused on finishing the season strong, particularly with the Europa League in mind.
“Above all else, I try to take one day at a time. There are two months left until the end of the season, and I’m always thinking about performing at my best. We’re in the Europa League semi-finals. It’s an important step for the club, which hasn’t reached this stage for so many years. I’d like to win it.”
Romero would captain Tottenham in what would be their 18th defeat of the season, losing 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest, before being substituted at half-time.
Ange Postegoclou revealed that Van de Ven and Romero’s substitutions were pre-planned.
“With both of them, we’ve got them in a really good place physically now, and I just want to keep them ticking over. I felt that there was no need to play more than 45 minutes today, and we needed to get a couple of others, game time.”
Tottenham face Bodo Glimt in the 1st leg of the semi-final in the Europa League, on the 1st of May, with the competition being their chance of a season revival and silverware for Romero.
