KEVIN De Bruyne is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The Belgian midfielder announced via an Instagram post earlier on today that he will not be renewing his contract and will be leaving the club after a 10 year stay.
Via the statement he said;
“Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading.
So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.
Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes.
That day is here and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
In that 10 years De Bruyne has accumulated an impressive 18 major trophies which includes the likes of the Champions League he won in 2023 during a treble winning year for the player as well as six Premier league titles.
As well during his time at the club he also won two PFA Player of the Year as well as two Premier League Player of the Season titles and also equalled Thierry Henry’s record for most assists in a single Premier League campaign with 20.
Manager Pep Guardiola said during his press conference earlier today that it is a “Sad Day” after the announcement was made.
He also expressed his gratitude to work with De Bruyne and expresses how the recent success of the club could not have happened without the midfielder.
He said via @CityXtra on X;
“A sad day. And a happy day for the fact the pleasure personally we lived this time with him, what he gave to all of us, his humanity.
“It’s not necessary to tell his success with us in the last decade – impossible to imagine without him. A sad day because a part of us is leaving.
“When Vincent [Kompany] left or Sergio [Aguero] left or David Silva left, their contribution… I can say more names, these three are examples.
“It’s a sad day. But still we have 10 games, and hopefully 11, six games at home that still we can enjoy with our fans and he will get – I’m pretty sure – the love and recognition that all of us, fans of course, that he deserves…”
The rumours have started to fly around after the Belgian announced his departure surrounding his future with many clubs set to be looking to gain De Bruyne’s qualities.
MLS sides have reported to been ‘alerted’ to the situation as well as Saudi Arabian sides also set to be ‘keen’ according to @JacobsBen on X.
But with 8 games left of the Premier League season as well as Manchester City in an FA Cup semi-final De Bruyne will still have his chance to leave a stamp of the end of his glorious career at the Etihad Stadium.
