Match Preview: Reading v Shrewsbury

An important League One clash takes place at the Select Car Leasing stadium this evening that effects both ends of the table.

Reading currently sit just two points off the play-offs while Shrewsbury are four points off safety.

The Royals have struggled since losing manager Ruben Selles to Championship side Hull City.

They have just won four of the twelve games since his departure, although Noel Hunt’s side have started well in February with four points in their first two.

The home side lost top goalscorer Sam Smith to fellow promotion hopefuls Wrexham and have to rely on 21-year-old Jayden Wareham to step up and replace him.

However, the former Chelsea youth player has only scored once for Reading since his arrival in 2023.

Shrewsbury come into this game after back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The Salops have had a slight resurgence under new manager Gareth Ainsworth, and look to get their third away win of the season and close the gap to those above them.

Although, it will be a difficult task as they are up against a side that have won ten of their thirteen home matches this season.

Solent Sports journalist Matthew Cook will be attending the match and it will be live on the Solent Sports News Youtube channel.
