Burnley keep clean sheet after goalless draw with Leeds United

The Clarets now haven’t conceded a goal for a total of 10 hours of league football, following a game that wasn’t for the neutral.

They currently sit in 3rd place just three points off their table topping opponents having conceded only nine goals in 29 games. The only other team to do this is Chelsea in the 04/05 season, managed by the infamous Jose Mourinho.

Leeds sit in a healthy position, taking advantage of rivals Sheffield United’s loss to Hull City on Friday night. They currently find themselves two points ahead at the summit of the table and have a favourable home fixture against Cardiff on Saturday afternoon.

The game started off slowly and remained that way until the 89th minute when Leeds winger Dan James forced James Trafford to turn the ball away for a last minute corner. This ended up being the only shot on target for the entire 90 minutes.

The visitors controlled possession early on and came closest to scoring in the first half after Dan James miscued his shot well wide of Trafford’s far post.

Burnley’s most notable effort of the game came five minutes later. Zian Flemming’s miss hit header didn’t trouble Meslier in goal.

Leeds full back Sam Byram’s penalty shout turned out to be the final talking point of a timid first half.

The second half had very little else to offer for both sides. Leeds controlled possession once more and looked closest to scoring despite having an xG of just 0.39.

Despite the poor showing for both sets of supporters, both teams will be more than happy with a point considering what the game meant towards the title race.
