THE third out of six group games will commence tonight in the Women’s Champions League and there are some teams who need a win to give them a chance of the knockout stages.
Four of eight matches will be played tonight and the other four will go on tommorrow evening.
Arsenal travel to Biella to face off against Juventus, the two sides last played each other in the 22/23 group stages of the Women’s Champions League and Arsenal took all three points.
Arsenal have one win and one loss in the competition so far, losing away to Bayern Munich and winning at home to Valerenga.
Juventus also have the same track record as Arsenal, losing to Bayern Munich but winning to Valerenga, however, the goal difference falls in favour to the Gunners.
The reigning champions, Barcelona, are hosting St Polten at Estadi Johan Cruyff, this will be the first meeting between the two sides and the first time St Polten will face a Spanish team in the competition.
St Polten have lost both of their matches in the group stages so far, a scrappy 2-0 defeat to Hammarby and an unlucky 3-2 loss to Manchester City where City stole all three points with ten minutes to spare.
The Spanish giants, have one win and one loss under their belts. They lost to competition dark horses, Manchester City with a 2-0 scoreline. However, they turned it around to thrash Swedish side, Hammerby 9-0.
The third match of the night is between Manchester City and Hammerby at the Joie Stadium and it will be the first meeting between the two sides.
Manchester City are unbeaten so far in the Champions League, beating both Barcelona and St Polten and they sit top of their group, however Hammarby could push through to cause a problem for the Cityzen’s just like St Polten.
Hammarby have got one loss and one win under their belt so anything could happen tonight. They beat St Polten, 2-0 at home but experienced a 9-0 thrashing away to the reigning champions.
The final match of tonight’s fixture is between Bayern Munich and Valerenga and like a few fixtures this evening, it is the first time the pair will meet to play each other.
Bayern Munich have an 100% win record in the group games so far, winning 5-2 against Arsenal and putting two past Juventus at home and it is very likely they could make it three wins out of three tonight.
Valerenga unfortunately do not have the same fate as their opposition, as they lost 4-1 to Arsenal and an unlucky score line of 1-0 to Juventus. They would need a win tonight to have any chance of progressing to the knockouts.
The other four matches of the third games of the group stages will be held tomorrow evening in the respective stadiums.
