JACKSONVILLE Jaguars could be ready to up sticks from Florida and become the first NFL franchise in the UK.
The Jags – who are owned by Premier League club Fulham owner Shad Khan – have been regular visitors to the UK and took their record on British soil to six wins and five losses with a 25-20 win over Buffalo Bills at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Jags coach Doug Peterson who expects the the teams to return to the UK, said: “I think it’s relatively safe to say that we’ll probably each year play two games over here.”
Speculation has increased recently with Khan threatening to leave Jacksonville if the team’s NFL stadium situaiton in Florida does not improve.
The reported cost for relocation would be over 1 billion dollars.
NFL reporter and Absolute Radio host Jay Lawrence said “I think it would mean that the NFL has got a grip on this country and that there’s much more opportunity for people to support a team over here”
He also admits the logistics would be hard ” I think that’s the biggest issue so far. Financially of course but logistically I just don’t know how it would work with a team being in the UK”
Lawrence has been to all the UK games this year and has said that the Jaguars game against the Buffalo Bills was “the loudest stadium I’ve been to in my life”
Despite all the love in London for the Jaguars, it looks unlikely that they will move before their stadium lease ends in 2030.
