Preview: Swindon Supermarine vs Winchester City

WINCHESTER City travel to Swindon on Tuesday to face Swindon Supermarine in a Southern Premier League clash.

It will be the second time these two teams will have played each other this season; the first game came earlier this month at the Charters Community Stadium in the FA trophy.

Winchester won that game 5-2 thanks to a Tommy Wright hattrick and an IK hill brace, with Harry Williams and Dave Sims-Burgess scoring for Swindon.

City have drawn their last two games in the league with goalkeeper Luke Cairney converting from the spot to earn points in both of those games, so they go into this game with high hopes.

Their most recent game was a 2-2 draw with Hungerford town in which Kieran Douglas and Luke Cairney scored.

Cairney has scored two goals this season as a goalkeeper

Unfortunately for Winchester though, they picked up two more injuries to add to the list as Douglas and Dan Bartlett were both substituted early.

Swindon won their last game 4-0 against Tiverton so go into this game with confidence but their 5-2 loss to Winchester in early October will definitely be in the back of their mind.

The two teams are separated by three points in the league and three places as Winchester sit 18th and Swindon 15th.

Winchester City manager Craig Davis had this to say about their upcoming opponents when asked after the game against Hungerford.

“We beat them comfortably here, but they are a different animal at home. They won handsomely today, 4-0 so they will be up for it.

“I said don’t read too much into the cup game, they’ll be a tough nut to crack but we will have to genuinely summon up some players.

“It’s going to be hard; we will have to do a role call to see where everyone is at, and fingers crossed we can go there, it will be a tough game, but we look forward to it.”

The game will be played on Tuesday 15th October at Webbswood stadium and kick-off will be at 7:45pm.
