Nottingham Forest fined £750,000 for controversial tweet

THE FA have imposed sanctions for Nottingham Forest following a social media post made by the club’s X account.

The club have been fined £750,000 and warned for miscounted, the FA have announced.

The post was made in the aftermath of their 2-0 defeat against Everton in late April 2024, in which Forest were denied multiple penalty claims.

The accused ‘Luton Fan’ was the VAR official on the day Stuart Attwell, who did not refer on field referee to the pitch side monitor for any incident.

At the time Forest sat just five points ahead of Luton, who occupied the final relegation spot, with the Hatters having a game in hand.

Nottingham Forest will appeal the sanctions have responded to the sanctions, with a statement on their club website, claiming: “We are particularly concerned that The FA, in its submissions, sought a sanction “in excess of £1,000,000”,

“We believe that this request, along with the subsequent fine, is wholly disproportionate and the Club will be appealing the decision.”

In the match, Forest were denied three penalties, with all three ‘offences’ being committed by Ashley Young.

They would go on to lose, with goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil.
